James Hetfield Pays Tribute To Eddie Money In First Post-Rehab Performance

Metallica frontman James Hetfield made an unannounced appearance at the Eddie Money Tribute concert held at the Saban in Beverly Hills, California, last week.

The singer, who checked into a rehabilitation facility in September of 2019, performed an acoustic rendition of Money’s 1997 classic “Baby Hold On.”

Other artists in the lineup included Sammy Hagar, George Thorogood, and Rick Springfield, among others.

All proceeds from the event benefited the USC Eddie Money Cancer Research Fund. Money passed away in 2019 from stage 4 Esophageal Cancer.

“Been thinking about what a special guy Eddie Money was. Francesca & I appreciated your friendship. We will miss you and will be keeping Laurie and their kids in our hearts. R.I.P.” Hetfield wrote on behalf of the band at the time of Money’s passing.

Meanwhile, Metallica’s forthcoming “All Within My Hands” benefit show was postponed to later this year, as Hetfield continues to recover from his issues with addiction.

“We may have been a little too ambitious with that date in terms of getting our s-t together and giving you an experience that matches or surpasses the first event held in November of 2018,” the band said in a statement.
