Jodie Comer is worlds away from her role as Villanelle as she shares a smooch with Ryan Reynolds in the trailer for Free Guy.

The Killing Eve star, 27, donned a dark-haired wig and a smart white lab coat for the film, which tells the story of a man who learns he’s living in a video game world. 

Jodie joins Ryan and a star-studded cast including Taika Waititi and Joe Keery in the film, which currently has a prospective release date of December 2020.

Ryan’s character Guy, a bank teller living in Free City, is living comfortably until he meets Milly/ Molotov Girl and she reveals that not everything is at it seems.

Jodie’s portrayal of the character is a far cry from her performance as Villanelle, who is known for her eye-catching couture looks as she travels across Europe. 

‘Guy, I have to tell you something. There’s no easy way to say this,’ she said. ‘This world is a video game. Listen to me, you’re not real.’ 

He refuses to accept Milly’s revelation and proceeds to pull her in for a steamy kiss, while the woman playing Milly in real-life watches in disbelief from her computer.

With a newfound confidence, Guy attempts to change his life and help save the video game, much to the dismay of the video game developer who only wants to destroy his character in the real world.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Reynolds also stars alongside Taika Waititi and Joe Keery in the philosophical action film. 

Reynolds tweeted on Monday: ‘Sometimes life feels like you’re trapped inside a urine-burping septic tank of hate. But then you pause. Take a cleansing breath and here’s the trailer for #FreeGuy.’

The film was initially set to be released in July, but was pushed back to a Dec. 11 release due to the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.
