Love Island’s Chris Hughes takes swipe at ex Olivia Attwood as he says he respects Jesy Nelson more
Former Love Island star Chris Hughes has said he has more respect for his girlfriend, Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson, than any other woman he’s dated.
The reality star, 26, was speaking to mental health and wellbeing Happiful when he made the claims.
Chris said: “I’ve got a respect for Jesy that I’ve never had for another girlfriend…It’s just about having someone to speak to who understands you.”
While Jesy will undoubtedly be pleased with the gushing praise, the quote likely won’t go down well with his ex partner Olivia Atwood.
Chris met Olivia on Love Island in 2017, and the couple went on to move in together and star in their own reality series, Chris & Olivia: Crackin’ On.
Their relationship was on-and-off with allegations surfacing that Chris cheated on her. The pair went their separate ways last year, and Olivia has since become engaged to her pre-Love Island boyfriend Bradley Dack.
Chris has been dating Little Mix star Jesy since early this year, and showed his support for her during her powerful BBC Three documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out.
In the documentary, Jesy opened up about being trolled online and her suicide attempt. Jesy and Chris have since announced they are planning to do another BBC Three documentary together about male fertility.
In the same interview Chris said they have talked marriage and children, but aren't quite ready yet.
He said: “We do speak about that kind of thing but her career’s still flying. I don’t think you should rush into having children, but enjoy time together and do the things you can’t necessarily do when you’ve got kids together.”
He also opened up about his own mental health battles, and how he has experienced anxiety in the past, and has recently struggled with bouts of depression.
Explaining that he sought help from a London-based clinical hypnotherapist who has helped him tremendously, and encouraged him to increase his self-care routine.

He said: "She explained that getting out for a one-hour walk in the sunshine, even on a cloudy day, increases your levels of serotonin – that happy hormone – and that it can also be increased by eating foods high in omega oils. This morning I made sure I had salmon and eggs for breakfast, because I wanted to get those fish oils in me.”
He also said he is trying to reduce time on his phone after he was shocked to discover he spends an average of seven hours and 54 minutes a day on his device.
He explained: “I need to relearn how to be bored, but the main thing is to eliminate negative thoughts. I’ve got to stop saying to myself, ‘You’re feeling alright now, but you’re going to feel sad in a minute'.”
