Mark Labbett: ‘To those I offend’ The Chase quizzer apologises for Jenny Ryan comments
Mark Labbett, 54, has been very vocal in his support for The Chase co-star, Jenny Ryan, on X Factor: Celebrity since the competition began.
And, ahead of last weekend’s first live show of the series, the chaser apologised to his fans for the amount of tweets he was going to be posting about her on Twitter.
“Be warned people, I intend to be tweeting a lot about @jenlion on X Factor tonight,” he said.
“I apologise unreservedly to those I offend, to the rest of you download the App and get ready to vote! 🙂 #XFactorCelebrity.”
Jenny showed off her incredible vocal skills on the night, singing Conchita Wurst’s winning Eurovision track Rise Like a Phoenix.
Mark tweeted after her performance: “Excellent, no need to vote for @jenlion #teamvixen #XFactorCelebrity.”
After Saturday night, Jenny was forced to respond to claims she was miming during her performance.
Many viewers took to Twitter to question whether The Chase favourite was singing live in front of the studio audience and judges, Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh.
Jenny ended up replying to one user who said: “I’ve just finished watching the #XFactorCelebrity Couple of things: Why was @jenlion miming? Why did Olivia have a hissy? Why did @SimonCowell allow @maxandharvey to sing that song if he didn’t like it, surely he would have known?”
Hitting back, Jenny wrote: “I was not miming. The performance was live. I refer you to the hundreds of people in the studio who can attest.
“Perhaps check the sound settings on your television set if they are not in sync with visuals.”
She also went on to tweet: “Hugely flattering to hear that some viewers thought I was miming on Saturday’s @TheXFactor.
“Nope, that was all live and all me. Not even like it was perfect! I suppose some people just can’t enjoy something for its own sake, but love a conspiracy theory…”
Another person criticised Jenny for her facial expressions during her live performance.
They said: “Was she in pain or constipated? Her face looked like she was in pain. Love Jenny, but not her facial expressions #jenlion.”
She replied: “It’s impossible to sing a song that big, to technically place all the syllables and notes so that you sound clear AND to express the powerful lyrics (esp. when they mean something to you) without ‘pulling faces’.”
Jenny will be back performing on Saturday night to battle it out to be crowned champion, along with other celebrities including Megan McKenna and Vinnie Jones.
Yesterday, the quizzer said she was “working out” what song she’s going to sing next, after she said she set the “bar pretty high”.
Olivia Olson and Ricki Lake were voted out of the competition last weekend.
X Factor: Celebrity continues on ITV at 8.30pm on Saturday.
