Michelle Dockery marries Phoebe Waller-Bridge's brother
Lost the memo not to upstage the bride, Phoebe? Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery marries Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s brother in star-studded ceremony as the Fleabag creator watches on, beaming with happiness
The producers of Downton Abbey could not have created a better wedding scene, with glamorous star Michelle Dockery at the centre of a glorious, joyous celebration in the late summer sunshine.
Beaming with happiness, the actress married Jasper Waller-Bridge – brother of Fleabag creator Phoebe – at a star-studded ceremony in West London yesterday.
The bride, who played Lady Mary Crawley in the ITV drama, was surrounded by Downton co-stars including Elizabeth McGovern, Lily James, Hugh Bonneville and Jim Carter, famous as unflappable head butler Carson.
But Ms Dockery risked being upstaged by her new sister-in-law. Phoebe was dressed in a stunning pink £1,945 Etro double breasted suit and matching deep neck waistcoat, priced at £440.
And the Hollywood look was completed with a giant diamond ring on her engagement finger, a wide-brimmed woven hat, black necktie and sunglasses.

It was a poignant day for Ms Dockery, coming almost eight years after her fiance, the Irish publicist John Dineen, died at the age of 34, following a 15-month battle against a rare form of cancer. The couple met in 2013 and although they never made it down the aisle, Ms Dockery told one interviewer: ‘I do consider myself a widow.’
Four years after his death, The Mail on Sunday first revealed that Ms Dockery had found love again, meeting Mr Waller-Bridge – a former talent agent for the likes of Holly Willoughby and Ant and Dec – through mutual friends in 2019. Soon afterwards, they spent time together at the Rome film festival.
Yesterday, they left St Nicholas’ Church in Chiswick, West London, as man and wife. The 41-year-old bride was wearing a simple but elegant – and, at £100,000, pricey – bespoke Emilia Wickstead satin gown, and carrying a pear-handled £995 Aspinal of London bag, while the groom, who is in his mid-30s, was in a traditional three-piece navy suit.
Before the ceremony, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, 38, who attended with her partner, the 53-year-old playwright Martin McDonagh, and older sister Isobel, a composer, led guests from the nearby George and Devonshire pub, where they had gathered for a drink, and into the church.
The event served as a reunion for the Downtown cast, who were last together when they filmed last year’s second big-screen outing. Also there were Joanne Froggatt, who played Anna Bates, Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), Imelda Staunton (Maud Bagshaw), Allen Leech (Tom Branson) and Lesley Nicol (Mrs Patmore). The show’s creator, Julian Fellowes, 74, was also there with his wife Emma Joy Kitchener, a former lady-in-waiting.

Other acting luminaries at the 45-minute ceremony included Phantom Thread star Lesley Manville and Happy Valley and McMafia star James Norton.
The Crawley clan would have been proud of the fashion choices.
Lily James was dressed in a smart £1,495 Galvan Boyfriend coat, and a £2,995 Erdem Evelyn floral-print ruffled gown. Ms Froggatt wore a more modestly priced £149 Ghost dress and £120 Topshop blazer – but blew the budget on a £1,140 polkadot Manolo Blahnik clutch.
Ms Manville wore a £646 Diane Von Furstenberg Stassie jacket and matching £455 trousers.
