Miley Cyrus cancels concert over coronavirus fears for safety of band and crew
Miley Cyrus has pulled the plug on a gig over coronavirus fears.
The singer shared her disappointment as she cancelled her Australian bushfires benefit gig in Melbourne amid the killer virus outbreak.
Miley was due to perform at the World Tour Bushfire Relief fundraiser being hosted at Lakeside Stadium, Down Under on March 13.
But the songwriter, 27, emphasised she had to put the safety of her band and her crew first while the health crisis has continued to spiral out of control.
She was advised not to travel to Melbourne.
She wrote: "Australia: Due to the recommendations of local, state, federal and international government authorities, including the Center for Disease Control, to reduce potential health risks in response to the current global health crisis, we are no longer traveling to Australia for the show.
"I am so disappointed to not be there, but I have to do what is right to protect the health and safety of my band and crew."
Miley confirmed she would still be making a donation to the victims of the Australian bushfires.
She added: "I will still be making a donation to help the victims of the Australian bushfires. I'm sorry to miss everyone in Australia, but I will be back soon."
The singer was due to take the stage with a number of other acts including: Lil Nas X, British DJ Seb Fontaine and The Veronicas.
Tickets for the gig set fans back $116 (£88).
Previously, Miley shared her heartache over the Australian bushfires as she touched on her personal connection to the tragedy.
The singer lost her Malibu home she shared with her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth in the fires which raged on in 2018.
She explained: "We lost our place in Malibu to fires, so I have a personal connection to that sense of loss and displacement
"I've spent the last 10 or 12 years really considering Australia a second home for me.
"I've always felt really attached to it, it felt like Nashville but with beautiful beaches."
Miley isn't the first celebrity to drop out of an overseas gig.
Mariah Carey cancelled her Hawaii concert over coronavirus fears last week.
