Neal Schon Says Journey Hopes To Release New Single In July
Journey guitarist Neal Schon has revealed that the band is working on a new album and fans can expect a new single in July.
Schon shared an Instagram video of himself playing his guitar with the caption, “Been in studio and JOURNEY album is starting to take shape. Back in later today zzzzz @nealschon @nealandmichaeleschon @merck_mercuriadis @journeymusicofficial @gibsoncustom @chromeheartsofficial #schön #soar”
The band’s most recent studio album, Eclipse, was released in May 2011. The album debuted at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 album chart.
“We have, like, five new songs in the making right now, and hopefully a single coming out in July sometime,” Schon said during a June 18 appearance of SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation.”
Journey recently parted ways with bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith due to the pairs alleged attempt “to launch a coup to take over Nightmare Productions, Inc. the corporate entity that controls the band’s name and trademark.”
Last month, Schon announced that Randy Jackson and Narada Michael Walden have become new bass player and drummer, respectively.
On May 23rd the band performed a lockdown version of their hit “Don’t Stop Believin'” for UNICEF USA’s virtual event UNICEF We Won’t Stop fundraising effort.
The band was supposed to launch a North American tour with The Pretenders in May but canceled the trek amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
