Piers Morgan praises Theresa May's 'savage' Boris Johnson takedown

Piers Morgan is in Theresa May’s corner following her takedown of Prime Minister Boris Johnson today.

The broadcaster took to Twitter to praise the former PM for her ‘savage’ blow in the House of Commons.

Johnson has faced scrutiny from both the public and fellow politicians following allegations of multiple parties taking place at Downing Street during lockdown.

May hit out at him over the findings of the Sue Gray investigation, saying the report show Number 10 was not observing the Covid rules they had imposed on the public.

‘The Covid regulations imposed significant restrictions on the freedoms of members of the public. They had a right to expect their Prime Minister to have read the rules, to understand the meaning of the rules, and indeed those around him to have done so too, and to set an example in following those rules,’ she said.

‘What the Gray report does show is that Number 10 Downing Street was not observing the regulations they had imposed on members of the public.’

She then suggested that Johnson had ‘either not read the rules, or didn’t understand what they meant, and others around him, or they didn’t think the rules applied to Number 10.’

When asked ‘which was it?’ the PM stood to reply: ‘No, that is not what the Gray report says. I suggest she waits to see the conclusion of the enquiry.’

Taking to his beloved Twitter account to share his views following the exchange between the two Tory party members, former Good Morning Britain host Morgan wrote: ‘Theresa May may just have finished Boris off. That was savage…. and coming from a former Tory PM in Parliament, devastating.’

He followed his tweet with a series of fire emojis.

Partygate has been the topic of conversation across the country over recent weeks, with Conservative MPs quitting the party as a result.

A redacted version of the Sue Gray report has been released, sparking fury amongst the public.

However, Downing Street has confirmed a second version will be published when the Metropolitan Police investigation concludes.
