President Trump says Duchess Meghan takes media scrutiny ‘very personally’
President Donald Trump is weighing in on the British tabloid’s treatment of Duchess Meghan, saying the former actress is taking the coverage “very personally.”
During a radio interview with “Leading London’s Conservative” Thursday, host Nigel Farage asked Trump how he feels about the media scrutiny surrounding Meghan, considering Trump has personally had “more unfair press than anybody else alive.”
“An American married into the royal family last year… She’s having a really tough time and she’s kind of saying the press are being really unfair to her,” Farage said. “Do you feel sorry for young Meghan?”
Trump responded: “I’ve been watching her interviews and I’ve seen it and she has been taking it very personally. I guess you have to be a little bit different than that but she takes it very, very personally.”
He added that he “can understand” the situation she’s in, while admitting he doesn’t know her.
Trump’s remarks start at the 1:05:15 mark:
Prince Harry, Duchess Meghan speak out about ‘challenging’ media backlash in TV interview
Prince Harry and Meghan announced early October that they are suing several British tabloids over the “malicious” and “relentless” mistreatment of the new royal. The “ruthless campaign,” Harry said, is taking a toll on the new wife and new mother.
“Not many people will have asked if I’m OK. It’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes,” Meghan told Britain’s ITV anchor Tom Bradby in last week’s documentary film, “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey.”
She continued: “Especially as a woman it’s really – it’s a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom and trying to be a newlywed.”

Trump touched on his three-day state visit to the United Kingdom in June, where he met Prince Harry. Trump described him as a “fine young man.”
“The whole family is terrific, it’s a great family,” Trump added. He didn’t get to meet Duchess Meghan, who was on maternity leave at the time after giving birth to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor in May.
