Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Updated Archewell Website Is Turning Heads

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle know how to shake things up — to put it lightly. In January 2020, the couple announced that they were stepping back as senior members of the royal family, with an added goal of becoming financially independent. They then left England, along with their son, Archie, to start a new life in California.

Then in February 2021, Queen Elizabeth confirmed that Meghan and Harry will not return as working members of the royal family, nor will they “continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service,” per the BBC.

Meanwhile, Meghan also had a legal victory in her lawsuit against the Associated Press and its subsidiary, the Mail on Sunday, for publishing parts of a private letter she wrote to her father, according to Vanity Fair. “For these outlets, it’s a game,” Meghan’s statement read. “For me and so many others, it’s real life, real relationships, and very real sadness. The damage they have done and continue to do runs deep.”

Harry and Meghan also announced that they were expecting their second child, so it’s been an eventful time, to say the least. While the queen released a statement about their decision to not return as working royals, Harry and Meghan also released a statement, sharing their commitment to service. “We can all live a life of service. Service is universal,” they said according to Us Weekly, and are doing this with their non-profit, Archwell. So what’s the big stir?

Despite their decision not to return as working royals, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have reinforced their commitment to service. In a statement made in February 2021, they said: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the U.K. and around the world and have offered their continued support to the organizations they have represented regardless of official role,” per Us Weekly.

Their nonprofit foundation, Archewell, has functioned as the home base for this support, and Harry and Meghan have made a small but significant change to their site. Since stepping away as senior members of the royal family, they’ve removed a photo of Harry as a young boy with his mother, Princess Diana.

When they re-launched their website at the end of 2020, Harry and Meghan shared both the photo of Harry and his mother as well as one of Meghan with her mother, Doria Ragland, according to Us Weekly. They shared a letter on the site which read: “I am my mother’s son. And I am our son’s mother. Together we bring you Archewell.”

The photos of mothers have been replaced by a picture of Harry and Meghan working at a Baby2Baby event in Los Angeles in 2020 and the website reads: “Welcome to Archewell. Through our non-profit work, as well as creative activations, we drive systemic cultural change across all communities, one act of compassion at a time.”
