Ricky Gervais trolls Oscars 2020 with jokes about ‘sex pests’
Ricky Gervais just cannot help himself as the hilarious comedian trolled the Oscars 2020 overnight, delivering zingers about ‘sex pests’ and ‘migrant house workers’ from afar.
The star earlier hosted January’s Golden Globes and it seemed fans wanted a little touch of Ricky to last night’s Academy Awards.
While the ceremony itself didn’t have a host, with various A-listers taking to the stage to do the job of a regular MC, from the comfort of his couch Ricky threw in his own flair.
And, much like you may expect, it wasn’t all that PC-friendly.
Fans asked the After Life star what he’d be doing up on that Dolby Theatre stage and he didn’t disappoint with his answers.
‘Question for @rickygervais Jf you were hosting the Oscars tonight, what’s your first best joke? [sic]’ one punter asked.
Ricky replied: ‘It’s great to see such diversity in the room tonight. Rich sex pests of all shapes and sizes.’
Uh-huh, ok, moving on…
Clearly on a roll, Ricky had another one to throw out into the crowd, though, as he this time thought about the Hollywood stars who would be in the audience.
‘I can’t wait to hear all your inspirational speeches about equality, and it’s great that the 3 hours you’re here tonight is the only time your badly paid migrant house staff will get some time off to sleep this week,’ he levelled on Twitter, potentially wishing those in the crowd would be flicking through social media and see it.
Oh he wasn’t done, though, as he advertised his Netflix series.
He wrote: ‘America! Binge-watch #AfterLife on @Netflix tonight. It’s about a man who realises that humanity is a disgusting, narcissistic plague, and so becomes angry & depressed and loses the will to live.
‘Or watch The Oscars instead and actually experience those feelings first hand.’
Seems the star still has a few jokes leftover from the Globes, eh?
Ricky delighted (and horrified some) fans after calling out the celebrities of Hollywood for their lack of awareness of ‘the real world’ as he confidently put people on blast last month.
The comedian went in all guns blazing in his speech at the Globes, taking aim at the Hollywood elite with jokes about Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew and the hypocritical nature of those in attendance.
Appearing for the fifth and last time, Ricky reminded stars at the LA ceremony to ‘collect their award, thank your god and f**k off’.
He then proceeded to name-drop his Netflix show After Life, and got his first major shock of the night by declaring: ‘It’s a show about a man who wants to kill himself… Spoiler alert: season two is on the way, so he didn’t kill himself… just like Jeffrey Epstein.’
He took to Twitter to thank everyone for the compliments after making endless paedophile and ISIS jokes and tweeted: ‘Thanks for all your amazing comments about my Golden Globes monologue. Best reaction ever and that means a lot to me.
‘I had a blast but thank f**k it’s over, so I can get back to my real job of editing #AfterLife2 and touring #SuperNature. Make Jokes, Not War,’ along with a praying emoji.
