Rocky actor Burt Young dies aged 83 as Sylvester Stallone pays tribute

Burt Young, best known for his role as Rocky Balboa’s best friend Paulie in the franchise, has died aged 83.

The actor died on October 8 in Los Angeles, his daughter Anne Morea Steingieser, told the New York Times on Wednesday.

No cause of death was given.

Sylvester Stallone, who played the film’s lead character as boxer Rocky, has led tributes to the late star on social media. 

He shared a black and white picture of the pair from 1976 on the set of the classic film.

Alongside the snap, he wrote: “To my Dear Friend, BURT YOUNG, you were an incredible man’s and artist, I and the World will miss you very much… RIP.”

Burt’s Amityville II: The Possession co-star Diane Franklin also wrote: “It is with great sadness I share the news of actor, Burt Young passing.

“He was 83. For those who don’t know he played my father in AMITYVILLE II:The Possession.

“He was a beautiful, funny, talented man, with a deep soul. He will be deeply missed. #ripburtyoung.”

Maureen McCormick added: “Rest In Peace Burt Young. What a great actor and a sweetheart of a man. My deepest condolences to his family.”
