Sara Bareilles Reveals Which Beloved ’90s Series Inspired ‘Little Voice’
Sara Bareilles helped create the new Apple TV+ series Little Voice, which is out now!
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter wrote original music for the series and Jessie Nelson, who she worked with on Waitress, is the co-creator and writer.
Sara teamed up with producer J.J. Abrams and his production company Bad Robot for the new series and she credits one of his shows as the inspiration.
“My college years were spent in deep devotion to one of JJ‘s shows, Felicity,” Sara told Entertainment Weekly. “I just love that show so much and I always felt like, as a young woman, it would be interesting to see what would the stories be of Felicity as a songwriter; if there was a way to marry those ideas.”
“We both really liked the idea of dreaming up a world that had what ended up being sort of the tone and the sweetness of a messy young woman trying to find her way in New York City,” Sara added.
If you didn’t know, Sara wrote the music for the Broadway musical Waitress, which was based on the film that Keri starred in back in 2007. She joked with EW that she and Keri “have a weird cosmic thing.”
