Scarlett Johansson Says Her Divorce Helped Her Prepare for ‘Marriage Story’: ‘It Felt Sort of Fated’
Scarlett Johansson keeps it chic and casual while attending the photo call for her latest film Marriage Story held during the 2019 Venice Film Festival at Sala Grande on Thursday (August 29) in Venice, Italy.
The 32-year-old actress was joined at the event by her co-stars Laura Dern and Adam Driver, as well as producer David Heyman and writer-director Noah Baumbach.
“Marriage Story is a love story that reveals itself within the breakdown. With these companion trailers I wanted to show the relationship through the eyes of both characters. There are many sides to every story, and the movie embraces these different viewpoints in order to find the shared truth,” director Noah said about the film.
“I was actually going through a divorce,” Scarlett Johansson recalled at the press conference (via Variety). “I didn’t know what we were going to talk about… I just kind of blew into the room, ordered a glass of white wine and started complaining. And he was just listening and very attentive. And then he kind of cut it short and said, ‘Funny you should mention it.’”
“It felt sort of fated in a way,” Scarlett added. “It was an experience to share with him and have him share with me. And it somehow came at just the right time.”
Scarlett and French businessman Romain Dauriac divorced in 2017. Earlier this year, she got engaged to Colin Jost from Saturday Night Live.
Marriage Story will hit theaters this coming Fall. Watch the trailer here.
FYI: Scarlett is wearing a Michael Kors Collection ensemble.
