Sharon Stone Says She Lost Custody Of Her Son Over Raunchy Basic Instinct Role

Basic Instinct gave Sharon Stone global superstardom — but it also may have cost her custody of her eldest son.

Any film fan knows Catherine Tramell from, the iconic role in the erotic thriller that shot her to fame in the early ’90s. The unexpected hit put Sharon’s name on the map, but over a decade later, the perception of her from that film caused her some pain in real life. On Tuesday’s episode of the Table for Two podcast, the 64-year-old opened up to host Bruce Bozzi about how she lost custody of her son Roan Bronstein — and the judge made it clear why:

“I lost custody of my child. When the judge asked my child – my tiny little boy, ‘Do you know your mother makes sex movies?’ This kind of abuse by the system, that it was considered what kind of parent I was because I made that movie.”

Just awful! For the judge to demean her like that! For crying out loud. It was a MOVIE! A hit movie that America thought was pretty great, btw. “Sex movies.” How reductive. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for that “sex movie,” you jerk!

The Casino star went on to point out how prudish and ridiculous the move looks in hindsight:

“People are walking around with no clothes on at all on regular TV now and you saw maybe like a sixteenth of a second of possible nudity of me — and I lost custody of my child.”

Her son, whom she shares with ex-hubby Phil Bronstein, was only 8 years old at the time of the court battles. Phil and Sharon adopted Roan in 2000 after they wed in 1998. They would go on to finalize their divorce in 2004, and the mother of three would attempt to get full custody of him in 2008, which eventually led to her getting all custody taken away. So sad…

The judge also said at the time Sharon would “overreact” to her then 8-year-old son’s health by suggesting he get Botox injections to stop his feet from smelling. The judge also stated she left Roan with “third parties” to look after him. She denied the wild claims at the time.

After the Catwoman actress lost her appeal to gain full custody, she went on to adopt two more children — in 2005 she adopted 17-year-old Laird Vonne and in 2006 she adopted 16-year-old Quinn Kelly. Losing custody of Roan didn’t break their special bond, however, and he even applied to add “Stone” to his legal name in 2019. The now 22-year-old is often seen spending time with his beloved mother.

We’re so glad Sharon and Roan are able to have such a good relationship today, despite the judginess of judges. Reactions, Perezcious readers?
