Simon Cowell is said to have spent a whopping amount on the engagement ring he presented Lauren Silverman when he popped the question last month. The pair had been holidaying out in Barbados when the music mogul proposed to the American socialite.
According to reports, Lauren had already been giving Simon hints about what ring she would want if they were to get married one day.
“And Simon, not being stupid, took notice,” a source told The Sun.
“He chose the diamond himself, after getting some professional advice, and went down on one knee whilst on the beach.
“Both Lauren and Simon have been bombarded with messages of congratulations — they’re both super-excited.”
It was initially claimed that Simon had spent an astounding £2.5 million for the ring, which a source close to the former X Factor judge has since denied.
Simon and Lauren have been together since 2013 after the latter ended her 10-year marriage to American businessman Andrew Silverman in July that same year.
They went on to welcome their son Eric Cowell in 2014.
Express.co.uk has contacted Simon’s reps for comment.
Earlier this week, Simon and his soon-to-be wife were seen cycling through the streets of sunny Malibu together when a photographer asked the pair to confirm whether they were engaged.
Simon cheekily replied: “What do you think?”
He thanked the photog who congratulated the doting pair on the exciting news.
Elsewhere, Amanda Holden has since reacted to the news of her Britain’s Got Talent co-judge looking to tie the knot with his fiancée.
Taking to her Heart Breakfast Show on Wednesday, the mother-of-two said she was stunned after receiving a text from Simon announcing his engagement.
She recalled: “We all got the text saying, ‘It’s happening’, and we couldn’t believe it.
“And I knew it would be in the papers today if we got the text last night.
“So I was like ‘oh my goodness!'”
The I Know Him So Well singer continued by quipping how she was probably just as shocked by the news as Lauren.
“Simon said he would never get married, and obviously Lauren has been by his side, and you now they’ve been through so much together, and I think she’s the one.
“But I don’t know if she ever thought he would put a ring on it!”
When asked by her co-host Jamie Theakston whether she believed the wedding would take place sometime this year, Amanda added: “I would love to think so.
“I’m literally messaging them as we speak going, ‘Do I need to book flights to Barbados?’ because I want to get in before the prices go up, let me know.”
