The statement read: “Personal news. In September I’ll be joining @LancashireFRS as a wholetime #firefighter.

“It’s been a really tough selection process & I’m so excited/terrified about this new challenge! (Please check your smoke alarms asap) #notjustfires #firefamily.”(sic)

After spotting Steph’s congratulatory tweet, Beccy hinted at the star’s news about expecting her first baby with her girlfriend as she replied: “Thanks Steph. We both have new challenges coming!”

Fans also took to the comments section of Steph’s post to share their messages for Beccy.

One wrote: “Wow, it would be interesting to know which job you find more stressful! Good luck Beccy and stay safe!”

Another added: “Steph this is lovely! What a career Becky has in front of her. Up until about a year ago I worked in the Ambulance service for EMAS. We work closely with the fire and rescue crews. So please be aware that the training is very tough, but I know she will do it xxx.”

Good luck. I once filled out the application (but on reflection it’s a good job I never sent off) scared of heights and hate the smell of smoke”, a third fan responded.

Becky spoke about the big move to BBC News and explained she was “excited and terrified” about the new job.

She said: “I still really love being a journalist but it has been nearly 20 years and I’m ready for a change and a different challenge.”

The TV personality’s father Roy Barr spent about 20 years in the same fire service.

Elsewhere, Steph McGovern got involved in a summer fashion dilemma as she wondered “whether it’s suitable to wear shorts to work”.

She tweeted: “There’s a lot of chat about whether it’s suitable to wear shorts to work.

“Given my bump + potential to overheat, I’m sacking off my usual filming attire and am wearing dungaree shorts to film.

“I know my biz gang @BBCBenThompson + @seanfarrington will be more than jealous. #kneesout.”(sic)

However, in spite of Steph’s advocation of shorts, she admitted to having a “minor concern” about wearing shorts on camera in a separate tweet.

She added: “My minor concern is that the prog I’m filming is not going out until Jan so I’ll probably look a right t*t when it’s on TV and the nation is wearing winter gear!!”(sic)

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6.30am.
