Tituss Burgess slams ‘messy queen’ Andy Cohen for bringing up Eddie Murphy’s troubled past
It appears Lil’ Kim is not the only celebrity who thinks Andy Cohen is “messy.”
“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” star Tituss Burgess slammed Cohen for being “a messy queen” on Instagram Monday after appearing on “Watch What Happens Live” Sunday.
“Yes I said it! Don’t care he knows either!” Burgess, 40, wrote in the comments of his latest Instagram post. “He should remember his talk show isn’t an episode of the real housewives of Atlanta! It’s a place where artists come to talk about art and have a little fun. NOT a place to rehash old rumors or bring a star negative press.”

On Sunday’s episode of “WWHL,” Cohen, 51, asked Burgess how it was working with Eddie Murphy on his upcoming film, “Dolemite Is My Name,” adding that Murphy “was very problematic for the gays at one point when I was coming up.”
Cohen is referring to homophobic jokes that Murphy made about gay people and AIDS in his 1983 HBO special, “Eddie Murphy: Delirious.” In 1996, Murphy publicly apologized for his statements, saying, “I deeply regret any pain all this has caused.” He added that he was “misinformed” back then but “it’s 1996 and I’m a lot smarter about AIDS now.”
Guest Laverne Cox mirrored Murphy’s sentiments on “WWHL.” She said, “It was a long time ago; people can evolve.” Burgess agreed.
“He wasn’t problematic for Tituss, and we had a wonderful time. … Any troubles he may have had with gay people I guess are gone because he loved me,” Burgess said before rolling his eyes at Cohen and motioning to someone off-camera.
Cohen picked up on his guest’s discontent, asking, “What are you saying, Tituss?” Burgess dryly replied, “Keep going, girl. Do your show.”

Burgess elaborated on the tense exchange on Instagram, calling the experience “a display of ratchet behavior by a well connected man having blatant disregard for one of his guests.”
“He was lucky I had my wits and Christian values THAT day,” the Emmy-nominated actor wrote. “Being friends with other talented celebrities doesn’t make you talented it makes you friends with other famous celebrities! He should rip a page from Anderson Cooper and learn how to do his job.”
Cohen appeared to brush off the incident Monday on his SiriusXM radio show, “Andy Cohen Live.”
“(Burgess) made an entertaining show, I’ll tell you that,” he said Monday. “Sometimes it’s fun to watch the show when the guest hates the host.”
