Tom Daley has shared the first photo of his newborn son, Phoenix Rose Black-Daley. Just hours after the baby announcement was printed in The Times newspaper, the Olympic diver posted a photo on his Instagram showing him with his screenwriter husband, Dustin Lance Black, introducing their new addition to their 4-year-old son, Robbie. Alongside the adorable family photo, Daley posted a selfie of him cuddling his tiny baby boy.
“Our family has grown in the last week, we welcomed Phoenix to the world on 28/03/23 and he’s just perfect ? Robbie is loving being a BIG BRO!” he captioned the photos. The couple hadn’t publicly revealed that they were expecting another baby, but the news was met with an outpouring of love and support from friends and family. Daley’s diving partner, Matty Lee, commented, “Can’t wait to meet him! Love you all,” while Michelle Visage added, “CONGRATS TO YOU ALL.”
Daley and Black welcomed their first son, Robbie, to the world in June 2018 via surrogacy, a year after marrying at Bovey Castle in Devon. Daley had been open about his desire to become a parent on Giovanna Fletcher’s Happy Mum Happy Baby podcast last year. “For as long as I could remember, I have wanted to be a parent,” he said. “I think because of the relationship with my mum and dad, we were so close and then, when I lost my dad [to a brain tumour in 2011], it was like, I want to be everything that he was to me to someone else because every child deserves to have what I had with my dad because it was such a special relationship, we were so close.”
In addition to dad duties, Daley is busy expanding his knitting brand, Made With Love, while competing in diving competitions. He received an OBE last year, and is the first male global ambassador for Rimmel London. With his new addition, Daley is going to be extra busy, but those adorable cuddles are worth it — and we can’t wait to see what outfit he’ll knit for baby Phoenix.
