Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta died in apparent suicide from gun shot
Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta died in an apparent suicide, according to US reports.
The 45-year-old, who is behind the hit ABC show starring America Ferrara and Vanessa Williams, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, sources tell Variety .
Silvio was found dead in a Miami motel room on Tuesday.
He was the show-runner and head writer on Ugly Betty, which ran for four seasons between 2006 and 2010.
America, who played title character Betty Suarez, paid tribute to Silvio after the shocking news broke.
Sharing a picture of them together with other cast and crew of the show as they collected an award, she said: "I’m stunned and heartbroken to hear the devastating news of Ugly Betty creator, Silvio Horta’s death.
"His talent and creativity brought me and so many others such joy & light. I’m thinking of his family and loved ones who must be in so much pain right now- and of the whole Ugly Betty family who feel this loss so deeply."
Vanessa, who played Wilhelmina Slater, also shared a picture of herself with Silvio as she paid tribute.
She said: "Still in shock after hearing the tragic news of our #uglybetty creator #silviohorta
"His creativity and passion will be missed by so many of us that worked with him. May he Rest In Peace".
A representative for Silvio confirmed he had died but declined to comment on the cause of his death.
Actor Christopher Gorman, who starred in the show as Betty's love interest, also paid tribute to the creator.
He said: "Silvio Horta gave me two of the greatest opportunities in my career with Jake 2.0 and Ugly Betty.
"I will be forever grateful for his creativity, his enormous heart, and his friendship. His family was his world and my heart goes out to them tonight. Let’s all take care of each other."
Mark Indelicato, who played Betty's nephew, thanked Silvio for giving him his big break.
He said: "Silvio gave me my start at 11 years old and trusted me with a character that was so close to his heart. He will be greatly missed by all."
