Brittani Jackson, Averill Wickland
Brittani Alexandria Jackson and Averill Quinn Wickland were married Nov. 9 at Piedmont Garden Tent, an events space in Atlanta. The Rev. Norward P. Brodie, the bride's grandfather and a Baptist minister, officiated.
The bride, 33, is a lawyer in Los Angeles at the litigation firm Hueston Hennigan. She graduated from Stanford and received a law degree and an M.B.A. from Harvard.
She is a daughter of Edith A. Jackson and Dr. Ralph A. Jackson of Duluth, Ga. The bride’s father is a physician in private practice, specializing in internal and emergency medicine, in Duluth. Her mother is a registered nurse and office manager at New Horizons Internal Medicine, the family's private practice, in Lawrenceville, Ga.
The groom, 34, teaches science, garden-based learning, cooking and nutrition to elementary school students and special needs children at Garden School Foundation, a nonprofit school in Los Angeles. He also volunteers with the Seed Consulting Group, a nonprofit group through which professionals provide pro bono consulting on environmental and sustainability initiatives to organizations in California. He graduated from Wesleyan University and received a Master of Public Administration from Columbia. He was Peace Corps volunteer, in Malawi, from 2008 to 2010.
He is a son of Arlinda A. Wickland and Timothy H. Wickland of Weybridge, Vt. The groom's mother, who is retired, worked as an administrator in student affairs at Middlebury College, serving as the associate dean of students and as the director of student fellowships and health professions advising. His father is the director of the science center at Middlebury College.
After numerous attempts by mutual friends to set them up, the couple went on their first date in New York in 2015, a walk through Prospect Park followed by dinner at Hamilton’s in Brooklyn.
