How to banish your wrinkles WITHOUT getting work done & why you need to change your sheets, beautician reveals
IF YOU'VE ever looked in the mirror to frown over wrinkles on your forehead, you're not alone.
Trying to stay on top of your skincare can be challenging but banishing wrinkles is a whole other ball game.
With thousands of potions and lotions available to help reduce fine lines, it can be tricky to know where to begin.
Luckily, we’ve spoken to some experts who have revealed some ways you can get youthful skin – minus the wrinkles – on the cheap without getting work done.
Salon owner Krystal Prince, 36, said there’s a number of ways you can reduce wrinkles – and lifestyle plays a huge factor.
The expert, who has been in the beauty industry for over 20 years, owns The Glamour Room based in Chelmsford in Essex.
FOOD
Expert Krystal said what we eat can play a huge role in reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
She explained: “I dislike the phrase, “you are what you eat”, but in all honesty it’s kind of true.
“It’s really important to take a good look at that fried chicken or that sugar sprinkled doughnut or even that bottle of wine before they touch your lips, because realistically that is what each cell in your body is made up of.
“Think of our cells like grapes, they are all fresh, firm and juicy but as the days pass and those grapes are exposed to the elements, they start to age and start to lose the plumpness.
“They become smaller in size, shrivelled, more like a raisin. Similarly, our skin starts sagging and lines start appearing.”
Krystal advised we can ‘plump our cells back up’ with water-rich nutritious food to help diminish wrinkles.
‘FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH’
Revealing another cheap way people can banish wrinkles, expert Krystal referred to the ‘fountain of youth’ – the kitchen tap!
She explained that hydrating our cells and keeping them juicy with water is key to reducing the appearance of wrinkles – without getting work done.
Krystal commented: “Fine lines, dark under the eyes, rough texture and dull looking skin are all signs of dehydration.
“Get guzzling and stick a slice of lemon in your glass of water, not just for a bit of added flavour but to help your body absorb it quicker and easier.”
PROTECTION
The salon owner revealed she’s left almost crying if she treats someone who doesn’t use SPF.
Krystal believes there are no excuses to be without SPF as there’s so many SPF products on the market – including moisturisers, BB creams, CC creams, foundations and serums.
She said: “We are all more aware of how much the external elements can damage our skin and age us.
“Not just the sun but pollution, as well as light radiation from our laptop, smartphones, and devices. An uneven skin tone, rough texture, sunspots, and lack-lustre skin is NOT in!”
SCRUBBING UP
Krystal also revealed that exfoliating the skin can help to banish wrinkles.
She explained as we age, our cell renewal process slows down, so it is harder for our skin to shed our old dead skin.
The expert commented: “I don’t know about you but I love a good exfoliation, I’m weirdly addicted!
“You can reveal new cells quicker by exfoliating and it brightens the skin instantly.
“You don’t even have to go to the shops, you will find things in your kitchen that can be used as an exfoliant.
“Old ground coffee granules, sugar, coconut oils, grab what you can and reveal fresh cells instantly.”
STRESS AND FROWNING
Krystal explained that stress can cause wrinkles and can have a huge impact on the skin.
Sometimes you can tell someone has had a ‘tough life’ just by looking at their face, the expert revealed.
But it’s because frowning constantly will cause a big line in the middle of the head while squinting will cause eye line and crows feet.
Even stressing internally can cause us to be unwell and cause sleep disruptions. This can all lead to ageing, so simply stress less!
SLEEP
The expert added that getting a good night’s sleep is another cheap solution to reducing wrinkles. But how you sleep is also important.
Krystal said: “We all know we need to get a good quality night's sleep but it’s not just that.
“Have you ever woken up with a huge crease across your face that then takes hours to disappear?
“I know this didn’t happen when I was 18 when I face planted the pillow after a night out but now 18 years later, I might start sleeping upright!
“If you can sleep without squashing your face up this will help those unwanted creases that you cannot iron out.”
HOME FACIAL ROUTINE
During lockdown every other social media post was a video for an at-home facial routine, which can really help reduce wrinkles.
Expert Krystal pointed out that the power of massage is amazing and often underestimated. Just a few minutes of massage a day can help lift and tighten the skin, she advised.
She said: “Don’t worry about spending a few thousand on a face lift, just get some good serums and creams and get massaging.
“Use upward, sweeping motions to encourage the skin to lift. This helps circulation to awaken the skin, massage can help drain and detox and reduce puffiness.
“Top tip while massaging, reduce hooding eyelids by pinching the skin along the brow bone and holding it firming up for a few mins. Hopefully I have just saved you a few pennies!”

CHANGE YOUR SHEETS
Meanwhile expert makeup artist at False Eyelashes Saffron Hughes revealed some other ways you can banish wrinkles without getting work done.
She explained that changing your sheets and pillowcases can work wonders on the skin.
Saffron explained: “Changing your pillowcases on a regular basis can stop bacteria from developing on your skin.
“I also recommend sleeping with satin sheets, which create less indentations and therefore less wrinkles on the skin, as you sleep.”
FACIAL ROLLING
Expert Saffron also revealed you should have an age-appropriate skin care routine in place to help reduce wrinkles.
Plus facial rolling can really help.
She explained: “Try facial rolling to stimulate the lymphatic system to get rid of toxins, ease muscle tension, decrease puffiness and stimulate blood-flow to increase your skin's glow.”
POWDER LIGHTLY
Makeup artist Saffron also revealed makeup can play a huge part in reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
She said: “Whilst translucent powder is great for setting your makeup, too much can accentuate your fine lines and wrinkles.
“Powder won't solve all your problems – use small amounts and only powder areas that REALLY need it. These are typically under the eyes, around the nose and forehead.”
