I look nine months pregnant because of a giant ovarian cyst – but I’m not ashamed

A WOMAN has revealed how she grew what appeared to be a baby bump – except it was an ovarian cyst growing in her tummy.

Raquel Rodriguez, 24, joked in a viral video that she "looks nine months pregnant with one child" because of the health condition.

In a jokey post on TikTok, the US-based former teacher rubs her stomach, before revealing what was really behind her "bump".

Raquel hopes her clip – which has been watched more than 1.3 million times, and received over 146,000 'likes' – can help raise awareness of the common health issue.

Many viewers were shocked that ovarian cysts could cause such dramatic physical symptoms.

One person wrote: "Though it was gonna be twins."

Another commented: "Omg! So is your stomach hard?"

A third shared: "I had one the size of a basketball when I was 16."

And a fourth added: "Mine was the size of a grapefruit."

According to the NHS, an ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac that develops on an ovary.

Usually they don't need treatment and will go away of their own accord – but sometimes they can cause bloating and a swollen tummy.

Speaking to Buzzfeed, Raquel – who is in the process of finding a doctor to remove it – explained that she first found out she had an ovarian cyst five years ago when she was battling a kidney infection.

At the time, it was the size of a softball – but not considered serious enough to remove.

Its size remained stayed steady until recently when she said "it’s gotten bigger pretty quickly".

According to the NHS, you should see your GP if you experience symptoms, such as pain during sex, difficulty emptying bowels or pelvic pain.
