A FORMER employee of the high-street retailer Sports Direct has given a glimpse of what really goes on in the store – and it's safe to say, drama's a regular occurrence.

Like most workplaces, Sports Direct, too, has stories from its workers – and now an ex-employee, Holly Laing, has spilled the beans of what it was like working for the sports gear giant.

Holly took to TikTok, where she shared some of her favourite secrets about the company – and according to her, your business was also everyone else's business.

Whilst working there, Holly soon discovered that for staff, Sports Direct was basically like a Tinder or Hinge playground.

''Everyone got with everyone – like, literally, everyone has spoken to everyone there at some point.'

This, she added in the video, would often also lead to drama.

''I don't know if this is true or not but people apparently went to the stock room to, like, kiss and stuff.''

Working at Sports Direct, however, wasn't all fun and games – and flirting – as the employer had also made it mandatory to offer Bag for Life and magazines.

According to Holly, if the staff had failed to do so, they'd be given a disciplinary – even when they hadn't sold enough.

Holly added that the company even had a system to ensure their workers follow the rules.

''They had, like, competitions and an app where they could track everyone's bags and mags sales ''

At the end of every week, the results would be put in a WhatsApp group, leaving some embarrassed about their performance.

For those working in the shoe section, Holly added, the managers would push for selling insoles.

Looking back at her time at the store, the former employee said she'd rarely make any sales.

''Like, nobody needs a Sports Direct magazine.''

According to the ex-worker, her manager would also instruct her to lie and tell customers they had run out of regular plastic bags.

Before the end of your shift, Holly and her workmates would also get their bags searched to show they weren't about to steal items.

However, this was not the end of the story – Holly was also once made to clean the toilets, even when it wasn't a part of her job description.

This happened after the toilets were filled with sanitary products and the manager called in all the female workers for a meeting.

After spotting a sanitary towel in her bag, the manager told Holly to take care of the toilets and the bins that were full.

''He was like 'Oh, is it you who's making the mess?'

''I'm sorry?'' Holly couldn't believe what she was hearing.

Hundreds of social media users raced to comments where they shared their experiences working in retail.

One said: ''I worked in Sports Direct and got my bag confiscated because it was a JD string bag.''

Another penned: ''I did 1 shift at Sports Direct and didn’t go back.''
