I'm a dermatologist – 3 skin issues you develop in your 30s that make you look older and the keys to combatting them | The Sun
A DERMATOLOGIST has revealed three ways skin changes in your 30s and how to reduce their impact for a youthful appearance.
Shereene Idriss (@shereeneidriss) claims that it’s unnecessary to splurge on expensive beauty cosmetics as the skin starts to lose its volume.
The NYC-based skin expert has garnered over 442,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares advice for nurturing different skin types.
She took to the social media platform to explain how skin starts to change as we age and shared proven solutions for anti-aging.
Shereene said: “If you’re in your thirties and you feel like your skin has fallen all of a sudden.
“You don’t know what happened but over the past six or even one month you feel like you’ve just developed jowls, well this video is for you.
“I’m a board-certified dermatologist and I’m about to turn 40 years old.
“And this is the biggest thing you’ve gotta take away from your 30s.
“No amount of cream, moisturizer, peptide, retinol, exfoliating acid, or sunscreen is going to restore volume in your face.
“And the same applies to all of you Gua sha users out there too because it won’t make you look like a fetus ever.”

Shereene said adding volume is only achievable by cosmetic procedures that require a needle.
However, other factors that can make people look older are preventable with the right skincare routine.
She said: “The biggest things I notice people develop in their thirties that add to the look of aging and looking tired is usually one of three things.
“Number one discoloration and uneven skin tone. The sun damage from your naive and stupid youth is coming up on your face.
“And using products that are geared towards discoloration and hyperpigmentation are key.
“Kojic acid, arbutin, niacinamide you name it.
“Numer two rosacea or acne because you become more hormonal in your thirties.
“Your skin becomes oiler and a lot of women develop hormonal acne.
“Azelaic acid is a great adjunct to add to your routine to calm that down.
“And last fine lines and wrinkles. Now a lucky few develop them later in life in their forties or so and some people get them in their thirites.
“They are inevitable but you can help repair your skin by giving it the nutrients it needs to help support your foundation.”
She captioned the post with hashtags including #beautyconcepts, #over30skincare, and #antiaging.
Over 67,000 people liked the post and took to the comment section to share their opinions.
One person wrote: “I’m 33 and just in the last six months my hormonal acne is insane, I’ve never had it before.
