Kate Middleton shows off her impressive gardening knowledge as she makes third appearance on Blue Peter – The Sun
KATE Middleton proved herself to be quite the whizz when it comes to gardening as she returned to Blue Peter for a third time.
The Duchess of Cambridge appeared on Thursday night’s instalment of the CBBC programme in order to announce the winner of the Royal Garden competition.
Out of hundreds of entries it was 12-year-old Jessica’s “living sculpture’ that most impressed the judges, and was selected to feature in Kate’s Back to Nature garden in Wisley, Surrey.
And while visiting the sculpture the Duchess, 37, showcased her knowledge of flora and fauna.
Remarking on the flowers growing up the metal trellis that make up a pair of butterfly wings she recognised them to be Clematis.
The sculpture also featured a twisted thorax hand carved from wood with wind chimes hanging at its centre, with the idea being that the Clematis will slowly cover the wings as it grows.
Visiting the sculpture in last night’s show, Kate said: “Wow, look at it, it’s amazing! And it’s enormous. Is it Clematis?
“It’s such a great idea; it’s going to be so lovely coming back year after year, to see how it’s growing.
“I love that it has a great feel. Look how they’ve incorporated the metalwork.”
Kate launched the competition on the show back in June, when she helped build a den on during an episode of Blue Peter.
She has also been awarded the highly-sought after honour of a second Blue Peter badge to add to her collection; the green badge for her efforts to get families back in nature.
She also has her gold Blue Peter badge, which she was awarded alongside Prince William in December 2017, proudly pinned to the front.
The gold batch is the most prestigious, and was awarded for their campaign work around mental health, and William described the honour as “very, very special.”
