Michael Kors, Versace, Jimmy Choo donate $3M to coronavirus relief
The fashion community continues to pour resources into fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
The founders of Michael Kors, Versace and Jimmy Choo — along with their parent company, luxury group Capri Holdings Limited — announced this week they will donate $3 million toward COVID-19 relief efforts around the world.
“Our hearts and souls go out to those who are working on the front lines,” John D. Idol, chairman and CEO of Capri Holdings, said in a statement. “We thank them for their remarkable dedication and courage and want to support them and the hospitals where they work. We also aim to strengthen organizations dedicated to helping the community.”
Indeed, the group’s donations will be targeted to each brand’s home town.
Michael Kors will give a total of $2 million to New York City groups (a combined donation from the label itself as well as personal donations from founder Michael Kors and Capri exec Idol). Recipients will include local hospitals NYU Langone Health and New York-Presbyterian, as well as the nonprofit God’s Love We Deliver (a longtime philanthropic partner of the brand) and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund for COVID-19 Relief.
Meanwhile in Milan, Versace’s charitable contribution of $500,000 will be divided between the San Raffaele Hospital’s ICU and Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana’s “Italia, we are with you” initiative, which is supplying ventilators and medical equipment to the country’s hospitals.
And in London, Jimmy Choo is giving back to its home country with $500,000 in donations with the aim of aiding medical professionals, via the National Health Service Covid-19 Urgent Appeal by NHS Charities Together and The World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.
A triple shot of love.
