Queen Letizia of Spain’s wedding jewellery worth almost £750,000 analysed by expert

Queen Letizia, then Letizia Ortiz, was announced as the future bride of Felipe in November 2003. Felipe proposed with a ring boasting 16 diamonds. The pair married less than a year later in May 2004.

Like most royal families, the Spanish royals have antique jewellery, which is incredibly valuable and precious.

The best time for these sorts of gems to be worn is at official state events, but especially weddings, when celebratory spirits are high.

This was certainly the case for Letizia’s wedding at Cathedral Santa María la Real de la Almudena in Madrid.

Letizia wore a number of gorgeous pieces, including a royal tiara.

A jewellery expert analysed the royal gems for Express.co.uk.

Helen Doyle Gemologist Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn explained the pretty tiara was borrow from King Felipe’s mother.

She said: “Loaned from her soon to be mother in law, Queen Sofia, this diamond set tiara made by Koch has over 50ct of diamonds of the very best colour and clarity.

“Given the royal provenance of this piece it would be worth in excess of £500,000.”

Koch was founded in Germany in 1879 and provided jewellery to many European royal families, including in Germany, Russia and Italy.

To compliment Letizia’s tiara she wore a pair stunning earrings.

Helen said: “A pair of diamond earrings set with three pear-cut diamonds as a quartrefoil to the top with two round diamonds below forming a drop.

“Total diamond weight approximately 14ct in total and look exceptionally white in colour and very good clarity.

“A pair of earring this size and quality would retail for £200,000.”

Both pieces perfectly complimented Letizia’s engagement ring, shown off to its fullest extent.

The expert said: “A very impressive full hoop diamond eternity ring set with princess-cut diamonds totalling approximately 5ct and set in platinum.

“The diamonds in this ring are of exceptional colour and clarity and worth in excess of £30,000.”
