Use that extra hour in bed to get a great night’s sleep with these products
THE clocks go back and we get an extra hour in bed . . . which may be great for some. But if you have problems sleeping, those extra 60 minutes may not be a game changer.
Today I look at how to get a great night’s sleep, while our Beauty Editor tests hand creams.
NAILS – Yep, that kind. Bed of Nails is an acupressure mat based on the invention that has been meditated on for milliennia and was once used by spiritual gurus. It has 8,000 non-toxic rounded nails that stimulate the body, reduce stress and release endorphins to help sleep.
I thought it would hurt but there are so many nails, the pressure is spread out. It’s relaxing once you get used to it. I liked it.

FIBRE – This is a strange one, but recent research has shown that sleep is aided by inulin, a prebiotic dietary fibre that is not digested but stays in the bowel and helps certain beneficial bacteria to grow.
Take a teaspoon before bed to increase the time spent asleep and decrease the time spent being restless. Plus it’s good for your gut, so it’s great to take anyway. Brilliant!

TABLETS – Zedz, like the name suggests, aim to help you sleep right through. They contain a combination of herbs, amino acids and vitamins – ashwagandha, passion flower, German chamomile, lemon balm leaves, l-taurine, l-Theanine, 5-HTP, lavender, biotin and magnesium.
Each ingredient has been chosen for its ability to calm and soothe the mind for a good night’s kip. You can take one or two, but go slowly, as they’re powerful. I felt a bit like a zombie, even after a good night’s sleep on two!

BUDGET – Soothing hand lotion with more than 95 per cent natural ingredients for soft and supple skin.
Absorbed well and felt super-nourishing, especially for my dry cuticles. Cherry blossom and rice milk come through beautifully in the fragrance, and for under a tenner it’s my favourite.

MID – Hydrating and anti-ageing hand lotion containing hempseed oil, white water lily and kelp to improve collagen levels and elasticity in the skin.
This is not greasy at all and left my hands soft and the skin plump and taut. Great for the anti-ageing effect. Also available in a 45ml miniature as well as 200ml and a 600ml super-sized bottle.

LUXURY – Nourishing hand cream with anti-ageing benefits for smoother, younger-looking hands.
Milk protein, avellana seed oil and macadamia lock in moisture for longer-lasting hydration. Absorbed well and only a very small amount was needed to cover both hands, so although it’s pricey, it does last.
