WE may use our shower every day, but many of us are guilty of not cleaning it often enough.
And, according to a cleaning whizz, on the rare occasions where we do you put on our Marigold's and give it a good scrub, we've been cleaning it all wrong…
While cream cleaners and ammonia-based products may be the obvious choice, John Cutts, who is a glass expert at MeandMyGlass.co.uk, has told how they could be doing more harm than good.
He warned such cleaning methods can cause the glass to go streaky, which could result in possible further damage, and instead suggests using white vinegar, lemons and salt to leave your shower sparkling.
DO USE
Lemons and limes with white vinegar
John, who shared his top tips to The Daily Star, explains both lemons and limes help to remove the most stubborn of stains thanks to their acidic nature.
He notes the fruit, which can be bought for as little as 2p, should simply be squeezed into a mixture of white vinegar and water and then a microfibre cloth should be used to clean the shower in a circular motion.

Once applied, the solution should then be washed off.
Salt
The glass expert explains that salt can be used on its own to help remove a build-up of hard water on your shower screen.

Alternatively, he recommends applying it onto a lemon and then scrubbing the screen with it, doubling the cleaning power.
Washing up liquid
John also suggests applying washing up liquid onto a sponge and scrubbing the glass in a circular pattern.

To ensure the screen is streak-free, he notes that the product must be rinsed off thoroughly.
White toothpaste
The glass expert explains that toothpaste is a cheap and cheerful way to get rid of a build up of soap residue on the glass door.
He also recommends using a toothbrush to get in all those nooks and crannies.
DON'T USE
Cream cleaner
John warns that applying cream cleaner can leave your glass shower screen looking "blurry" and streaky – and even dirtier than when you started.
He explains the product should be saved for removing stains from grubby pots and pans.
Scouring pads
The cleaning whizz warns the rough surface of a scouring pad can actually cause damage to the shower screen.
He adds how the abrasive surface can scratch the glass and leave behind a soap residue.
Bleach
While bleach may be your go-to cleaning product and is great for cleaning floors or the shower drain, John points out that it can cause damage to glass so should be avoided.

The glass expert notes ammonia-based cleaning products can also result in more streaks and make the shower look even filthier than it did before.
Not only that, but he points out how excessive usage can also cause damage to the rubber at the bottom of the glass screen.
