You’ve probably been washing your pillow cases all wrong… and DEFINITELY not often enough
IF we had to pick a household chore we dread the most, it would have to be changing the bedding – it's time-consuming, fiddly and a total faff.
But while we just about muster the motivation to strip the bed every couple of weeks, one cleaning fan has revealed that we should be changing our pillow cases every four DAYS.
Posting on her TikTok account, mum-of-two Chantel Mila walked her 241,000 followers through her pillow case washing routine.
She wrote: "This is your friendly reminder to go [and] wash your pillowcase.
"Pillowcases build up sweat and oils, which can lead to breakouts and allergies."
Explaining how she repeats this process every three to four days, Chantel washed them with gentle detergent and added two drops of eucalyptus oil to get rid of allergens.
She added: "Never use fabric softener as this can leave a residue that can cause breakouts. Use white vinegar instead."
Dr Lindsay Browning previously told Fabulous that not washing your bedding can impact your sleep habits and affect your skin.
She explained: "There is a disgusting amount of dead skin cells and sweat in our duvets and pillows.
"This is going to be bad for asthma, your skin and also it stops the air flowing.
"So you might get more hot and sticky and sweaty and it's important to regularly wash them."
Chantel's video racked up thousands of views – and needless to say, it inspired people to put a load of laundry on.
One replied: "I am going to wash my pillowcase right now!"
When asked why she puts vinegar in her washing, the mum added: "It deodorises and leaves your clothes smelling amazing."
But a third wrote: "Once a week is all that is necessary."
