British-born nurse ‘in complete shock’ after winning Miss Hong Kong 2020 crown
A British-born model has taken the Miss Hong Kong 2020 crown.
Lisa Marie Tse, who was born in Scotland, scooped the main prize along with the ‘Miss Photogenic’ title.
The 25-year-old’s mum hails from the UK, while her dad was born in Hong Kong.
Despite her lack of fluency in Cantonese, the English-speaking model proved to be the best-loved contestant.
She won over the audience’s heart with a performance of the Chinese song Shanghai Tang.
Her kind personality and humanitarian values, which stem from working as a nurse in a Scottish hospital, is probably another reason why she won judges over.
Lisa, an Edinburgh Napier University graduate, is chuffed that she won the crown in the 48th year of the Miss Hong Kong pageant.
On Instagram, she wrote: “I just want to say THANK YOU.
“Thank you my family, supporters, my nominator and all at TVB (a television company).
“The past few weeks have been the most hectic, but amazing weeks of my life.
“I have learned so much, grown as a person and really couldn’t have done this without your support. I am still in complete shock!”
Lisa continued: “Hong Kong has always held a special place in my heart and I cannot wait to take this opportunity to continue to spread love and joy.”
She also thanked her dad for his part in her journey.
The pageant star admitted: “When I was 17 years old, my dad encouraged me to come to Hong Kong and join the Miss Hong Kong pageant, but I was not interested at the time, since I have so many friends in Scotland.”
Now she’s been victorious, Lisa is glad she took the leap of faith.
She added: “And lastly, to my dad, we've done it!”
Lisa’s post racked up 15,500 likes – and many congratulated her for winning the title.
One responder gushed: “Congratulations Lisa! So proud of you.
“I am sure this would be such an unforgettable memory for you.”
Another said: “Congratulations! Keep on spreading lots of love and joy to us in the future.”
And a third added: “You look stunning. Wishing all the best for your future.”
