Bruce Springsteen Postpones All September Tour Dates Due to Illness
Bruce Springsteen has canceled all the remaining dates on his touring calendar for the month of September, with a statement on his social media saying he is suffering from peptic ulcer disease and has been advised by doctors to take the rest of the month off for treatment.
“Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have postponed all performances currently scheduled for September 2023, beginning with tomorrow’s show scheduled for the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, NY,” the statement said. “Mr. Springsteen is being treated for symptoms of peptic ulcer disease and the decision of his medical advisors is that he should postpone the remainder of his September shows.”
That statement was followed by an apology, and a promise to return, attributed to Springsteen.
“Over here on E Street, we’re heartbroken to have to postpone these shows,” the musician said. “First, apologies to our fabulous Philly fans who we missed a few weeks ago. We’ll be back to pick these shows up and then some. Thank you for your understanding and support. We’ve been having a blast at our US shows and we’re looking forward to more great times. We’ll be back soon.” It was signed, “Love and God bless all, Bruce.”
The postponements closely follow dates Springsteen missed in Philadelphia August 16 and 18, due to an illness that at the time went unnamed; those Philly shows were pushed to August 21 and 23, 2024.
He had been back on the road since, playing shows lasting as long as three hours, the most recent of which were concerts at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium Aug. 30 through Sept. 3, a full eight months after what was to be the tour finale.
Springsteen will have longer than just the rest of this month to recuperate. He already had the month of October off, as the tour was set to take a month-long break after Sept. 29. The next scheduled date on his calendar is Nov. 3 in Vancouver, BC. The routing then takes him and the E Street Band through Canada and onto the west coast before its scheduled wrap-up in San Francisco Dec. 12.
