Chris Lane Said Proposing to Lauren Bushnell Went Perfectly—Except Him Stepping in Dog Poop

The video features a song called “Big, Big Plans”—which Lane wrote for Bushnell—and it shows the country star prepping for the engagement before segueing into a montage of short clips of the couple together.

The video then moves to the actual proposal, and as the we hear the lyrics “Right now we’re back in her hometown/and I’m down on one knee,” Lane gets down on one knee and asks Bushnell to marry him. The video ends with Bushnell and Lane’s family and friends coming out to congratulate them.

As Lane told People, he planned a backyard proposal because Bushnell wanted it to be a low-key moment. “I knew she wouldn’t want some elaborate crazy proposal…I asked her parents for different places in Portland I could potentially take her to, but after a lot of thought I decided doing it at the family cookout would be the most laid-back setting and that she’d appreciate the simplicity of me proposing to her in her parents’ backyard,” he explained.

And everything went perfectly—except for one kinda gross (and funny) detail. “As I was about to propose… I stepped in fresh dog poop with my bare feet. Not at all how I planned it out in my head!” Lane told People.

In the video, you don’t really see said dog poop, but there is a brown pile on the grass by Lane’s feet that looks pretty suspicious.

In 2016, Bushnell appeared on season 20 of The Bachelor, and at the end of the season she got engaged to that season’s lead, Ben Higgins. They ended their relationship about a year later.
