Donald Trump’s $4.45 Million NFT Collection Sells Out In Single Day
The future of NFTs may be a topic of controversy, but there were plenty of people willing to buy Donald Trump’s digital assets. So much so, the collection sold out within a day.
Last month, the former U.S. president took to Truth Social, his personal social media platform, to make a “major announcement.” Trump created the platform in October 2021 as an alternative to Facebook and Twitter, with fewer censorship rules, after many of his other social media accounts were deactivated.

In the post, Trump explained he was releasing a series of digital trading cards to commemorate his life’s accomplishments.
He described them as “limited edition cards featur[ing] amazing ART of my Life & Career […] very much like a baseball card but hopefully much more exciting.”
The NFTs depict the president in a range of scenarios, though not all of them are realistic. Some show him as an astronaut, race-car driver, and even a wrestler.
The line eventually dropped on the Opensea marketplace; 45,000 digital cards were available for sale at $99 USD a piece. However, it didn’t take long for the entire collection to sell out.

Trump reportedly made $4.45 million from the sales in a single day. It’s unclear what the businessman intends to do with the profits from the sale, but some funds will likely be funneled into his 2024 presidential campaign.
The Apprentice alum announced in November his plans to run for president again.
“In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” he announced in November. “This will not be my campaign, this will be our campaign all together.”
His announcement immediately sparked outrage, with critics arguing he shouldn’t be eligible to run due to his involvement in the Capitol Hill riots that took place in January 2021.

Though an investigation was launched into social media posts Trump made, which seemingly encouraged rioters, he was cleared of wrongdoing.
Still, there’s currently an ongoing lawsuit trying to stop his presidential campaign.
Filed by attorney John Anthony Castro in Florida, the case argues that Trump’s campaign violates Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which prevents someone from holding office if they’ve participated in insurrection.
Additionally, Trump and several of his children are also implicated in a $250 million lawsuit filed by the New York attorney general, which remains ongoing.
