EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: The day teenager Gabby Logan went green
EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: She may be the golden girl of BBC Sport… but the day mischievous teenager Gabby Logan went green proves she hasn’t always been so prim and proper
As the golden girl of BBC Sport, Gabby Logan hasn’t always been so prim and proper and was actually a rather mischievous teenager.
The mother of two, married to former Scottish international rugby star Kenny Logan, used to convince her babysitter that she and her siblings were permitted to get drunk — before things, predictably, took a turn for the worst.
‘We had some poor victim of a babysitter whom we absolutely terrorised and told we were allowed to drink,’ says Gabby, 49, whose father was late Welsh football star Terry Yorath.

‘There was a green liqueur called Crème de Menthe and I remember Mum coming home with three of us throwing up all over the living room floor, because we’d told our babysitter that it was a mint drink we were allowed to have.’
After leaving the BBC, it would appear Jon Sopel is missing sitting on the fence and being a buffer between warring factions.
Now co-hosting a show on Global Radio with former BBC colleague Emily Maitlis, he has an interesting ideal dinner party scenario lined up.
With the criteria that one of the guests is Vladimir Putin, Sopel says he’d like to have the Ukrainian president breaking bread at the table, too.
‘I’d invite Volodymyr Zelensky to sit opposite,’ says 63-year- old Sopel.
Well, he’s not likely to come as Putin’s plus one.
Puppy love for Melanie
Sir Mick Jagger might have sung Let’s Spend The Night Together, but spare a thought for his girlfriend Melanie Hamrick, 36, who seemingly spent Valentine’s Day alone with just her dog Smudge for company.
The former ballerina, who began dating the 79-year-old rocker in 2014, and with whom she shares six-year-old son Deveraux, showed love was still in the air with heart-shaped attachments to her hairband.

And not for the first time, she is also sporting a huge sparkler on her wedding finger.
If she and Mick do end up walking down the aisle, I suggest she has a word with Mick’s ex, Jerry Hall, first. It concerns Jerry mistakenly believing her ‘marriage’ to Mick in Bali was official…
Little Women star Florence Pugh is so excited about her new film Puss In Boots: The Last Wish that she’s taken to the streets of London to self-promote it.
The 27-year-old, who voices Goldilocks, posed for a picture alongside a passing bus with an advert emblazoned on the side for the animated movie, which so far has banked more than £9 million in ticket sales.
‘In case you haven’t caught it yet in the UK, it’s out in the cinemas and you can take your granny or your child. It’s that good,’ says the Oscar-nominated actress, without a hint of bias, of course.
He’s honed the on-court technique of Sir Richard Branson, but tennis coach Brad Roberts is hoping to deliver a winning smash of his own — against the company which manages the six tennis courts in rarefied Holland Park, West London.
‘I was dismissed after 30 years’ service,’ Roberts, 62, tells me. ‘They said I was not performing at a financial level that they expected.’
Roberts’s case at a tribunal was dismissed for being ‘out of time’. But he’s appealing, pointing out that his services were dispensed with after he’d suffered a serious injury.
‘I’m hoping the appeal will be in the next few weeks,’ adds Roberts, who rates Branson as one of the most talented of his old clients (‘quite a good tennis player’).
His opponent on this occasion — management company Idverde — declines to comment.
Rock dinosaur Rick Wakeman is still seething after a van of ‘invaluable’ musical equipment, including his keyboards, was stolen while he was on tour last December.
‘The robbery really upset me,’ says the 73-year-old musician. ‘There used to be a so-called honour among thieves: you don’t take away somebody’s livelihood. Anyway, these items are no use to man or beast, except to me.’
Still time for the rotters to return the goods before Wakeman’s concert double-header at the London Palladium next week, on February 22 and 23.
