Fans Obsess Over How Many Bathrooms Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, and Royals Have in Their Homes

For some reason, followers are keenly interested in proving that members of the British royal family are just like the rest of us. For decades, they’ve eagerly listened to hear about grooming, eating, and yes, even bathroom habits.

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William, and Prince Harry are only human underneath all the pomp and circumstance. And because they’re so rich, they attend to those human needs in the height of luxury. That’s one of the reasons why fans can’t get over how many bathrooms royal family members have in their personal residences.

Queen Elizabeth’s Buckingham Palace has 78 bathrooms

The queen’s main residence, Buckingham Palace, is no small cottage. The sprawling property includes 775 rooms for various purposes including 78 individual bathrooms, The List reported. Does she employ a full-time staff member just for scrubbing toilets? It wouldn’t come as a surprise.

Of those 78 bathrooms, only around six of them are part of Her Majesty’s private living quarters. But while there, the queen remains quite discreet as always. Staffers must stay far away when the queen excuses herself to the loo and she would never explain in graphic terms precisely why she was taking her leave.  

Prince William and Kate Middleton have a much more modest home

Compared to Queen Elizabeth’s palace, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have an extremely understated home. And that means fewer bathrooms to maintain. Unfortunately, fans will never know precisely how many toilets William and Kate are hiding behind closed doors because Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace and Anmer Hall in Norfolk have never been listed on the real estate market.

But we do know that Apartment 1A has around 20 rooms that aren’t all bathrooms. That fact alone means the Cambridges are living a bit more realistically than the queen does — that is until Prince William gets his big promotion to reigning monarch.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a lot of bathrooms, too

Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex shook up the royal family in a big way when they stepped down as senior royals in early 2020. The couple spent some time in Canada before coming up with a more permanent living situation in California.

The Santa Barbara mansion the couple allegedly purchased cost $14.7 million, Evening Standard reported, and included 9 bedrooms. But perhaps most surprising of all was the addition of 16 bathrooms — way more than Prince William and Kate have at home.

It’s surprising for a couple that’s so dedicated to environmental issues and reducing their carbon footprint. However, because they didn’t build the home, the number of bathrooms isn’t entirely their fault. Staff members likely live there full time. But it’s safe to assume that not all those restrooms are used heavily every single day.

It’s true that royals are just like us. They use the bathroom (or the loo) daily and even have their choice of facilities when nature calls.
