Prince Harry and Meghan Markle look more in love than ever. Becoming new parents seems to have drawn them even closer together. What exactly caused the couple to make things official and tie the knot? Here’s how Prince Harry knew Meghan Markle was the one.

Prince Harry had a crush on Meghan Markle long before they met

Prince Harry reportedly had his eye on Markle way before they were officially introduced. In the documentary When Harry Met Meghan: A Royal Romance, royal commentator and biographer Katie Nicholl said Prince Harry had a crush on Markle for two years before they met. Nicholl said Prince Harry told his friends that Markle was his “ideal woman.” He was familiar with Markle from her role on the USA Network series Suits, in which she played the role of Rachel Zane. Here’s what Nicholl had to say about Prince Harry’s fondness for Markle:

He had a crush on Rachel Zane two years before he ever met Meghan Markle, and the reason I know that is because I was having drinks with one of his friends and she told me she had been on a night out with Prince Harry. He was single at the time. So, she said to him, ‘So Harry, who’s your ideal girl?’ And he said, ‘Meghan Markle, from Suits.’

How Prince Harry and Meghan Markle met

The duke and duchess were reportedly introduced by Markus Anderson, a mutual friend of theirs as well as a consultant for the Soho House in New York City. Anderson arranged for them to meet at Soho House. According to Nicholl, it was the perfect opportunity for them to talk and get to know each other. Nicholl says Markle didn’t seem swayed by the fact she was in the presence of a prince, but she did think he was “terribly cute.”

How Prince Harry knew Meghan Markle was the one

During their engagement announcement, Prince Harry said heknew Markle was the one for him as soon as he laid eyes on her. When a reporterasked when Prince Harry knew he would marry Markle, he said, “The very firsttime we met.” The pair were also asked how they were they’re feeling about theengagement. Prince Harry said he was “thrilled” and Markle said she was “sohappy.”

The location of the couple’s announcement was significant.They chose to hold their press conference in the Sunken Garden at KensingtonPalace. This was reportedly Princess Diana’s favorite part of the palace.
