I had three of my kids after the Pill AND my husband’s vasectomy failed
MUM Kate Harman is happy kidding around — despite having three of her five children while using contraception.
She fell pregnant with Charlie, now 20, while on the Pill, assuming her IBS symptoms or medication interfered with the contraception.
After having Alfie, 14, and Stanley, eight, she went back on it — and then had Lottie, seven.
Kate said: "Because we'd had our little girl who was also a surprise, I said 'I'm not going on any more birth control, I'm done' and he said 'I'll have a vasectomy'.
"He had that done. He was in a lot of pain as you can imagine a man going on and on about it. I was just like 'I've pushed four babies out, man up'.
Hubby Dan had the snip in 2015 but she still conceived Buddy, now two.
Kate added: "So we carried on as usual and I've been having unprotected sex for three or four years then I was late on my period. I'm never late, I'm always early usually.
"My twin sister said to me 'you're pregnant' and I said 'no I'm not, I can't be pregnant, Dan's had the vasectomy'.

"I had the complete shock of my life when I looked at the test. I was shocked and scared and thought 'how are we going to survive?' because we only live in a four bedroom house.
"He was like 'I can't believe I've had this effing operation and it didn't work' and we were both just laughing in the bathroom. He said 'I went through all of that pain for nothing' and I was like 'oh well, never mind'."
Kate said that Dan phoned the doctors who advised him that the vasectomy definitely worked as they'd been protected for around three years, but that they thought his tubes had rejoined.
Buddy was a "miracle baby" as he faced numerous complications including Group B Strep, which left Kate so poorly in hospital that doctors urged her to have an abortion or she "could die" but she refused.
Kate said: "They urged me to abort him but I said no. It was awful.
"I was on my own because Dan was at home with all the other children and having all these doctors around me saying 'it's either you or you need to get rid [of baby] basically because you could die'."
Beautician Kate, 39, of Biggleswade, Beds, plans to get sterilised early next year.
But she said: "I think we could definitely be the most unlucky couple when it comes to contraception, that's why I'm getting sterilised.
"I've read up on it and not all sterilizations are 100 per cent effective either so Dan's already said that if I do fall pregnant after the sterilisation, it's meant to be.
“Luckily, we love having a big family.”
