Society figure Lady Kitty Spencer may not have worn the Spencer Tiara on her own wedding day last year because she associated it with ‘painful’ memories, a jewellery expert has said.
The society belle, who is known for her ultra-feminine, polished style and turns 32 tomorrow, tied the knot with Michael Lewis, 63, in Italy last summer.
The niece of Princess Diana married the South African Millionaire in a dream location but shocked royal fans by deciding not to wear the late royal’s wedding tiara at her own nuptials.

The tiara is a family heirloom that was also worn by all of Diana’s sisters on their wedding days.
After the Princess’s death in 1997, the Spencer tiara was most likely returned to Earl Charles Spencer, Diana’s younger brother and Lady Kitty’s father.
The tiara belongs to the Spencer family not the Royal family and was even worn by Kitty’s own mother, Victoria Aitken when she wed Charles Spencer in 1989, making it even more surprising that the young socialite decided not to wear the diadem last year.
Founder of prestigepawnbrokers.co.uk, James Constantinou told express.co.uk why he believed Lady Kitty Spencer shunned the idea of wearing the tiara, saying personal taste and painful memories may have combined.

He explained that it has been speculated that Kitty was influenced by a number of factors on her wedding day.
He said: ‘First off, she wanted to combine her love of Italy with her English heritage, which involved flower garlands worn in the hair.’
In addition, Lady Kitty may have had a set idea of what she wanted to wear on her wedding day.
And so the expert argued that the Spencer tiara may have just simply not have worked with Kitty’s wedding outfits.

On her wedding day Lady Kitty Spencer had a number of outfit changes, all of which were designed by Italian designers Dolce & Gabbana, and estimated to be worth more than £2.5million.
As a global ambassador for the Italian fashion house, they designed exclusive dresses for her hen do, wedding and honeymoon.
For the three-day wedding, D&G created five different custom creations, including the breathtaking Victorian-inspired lace gown she wore down the aisle.
These were paired with earrings, necklaces and rings from the label’s exclusive Alta Gioielleria high jewellery collection.

Prices for these diamond and jewel-encrusted pieces are not publicly available but start from £25,000, and raise to approximately £510,000 for top-of-the-range necklace.
Mr Constantinou speculated that the Spencer Tiara may just have looked odd with her choices.
However, Lady Kitty has always remained very private and has never discussed her choice not to wear the tiara.
And so he said that one reason she didn’t wear the tiara could be because it was ‘painful’ for her for a key reason.

He said: ‘However, is also thought that wearing the tiara would bring back painful memories for Kitty, remembering her aunt who died in tragic circumstances, and also memories of her own mother’s marriage which was also not a happy ending.’
Lady Kitty was in fact fully entitled and expected to wear this tiara as the next Spencer woman to marry after her mother and aunts all got wed in the 20th century.
But Mr Constantinou continued: ‘Lady Kitty would have been fully entitled to wear the tiara as it is a Spencer Heirloom, but could well have opted to wear a discreet piece in a nod to her heritage.’

The Spencer Tiara: Diana’s heirloom wedding piece
The Spencer Tiara was worn by Princess Diana at her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981, and worn by her on numerous occasions after her big day.
The tiara is a family heirloom that was also worn by all of Diana’s sisters on their wedding days.
The headpiece, which was made by Garrads, has an elaborate design of stylised flowers decorated with diamonds in silver settings.
Said to date back to the 18th century, it was given to Diana’s grandmother, Cynthia, Viscountess Althorp, by a distant relative called Lady Sarah Spencer as a wedding gift in 1919.

The tiara was remounted and sections were added in the Thirties, with the oldest pieces said to be at either end. It features large gold scrolling foliage adorned with tulips, stars and a central heart, each decorated with diamonds and set in silver. Its curved shape and whimsical design make it different to the more formal style of royal headpieces.
Reportedly Diana’s favourite, it was worn by her older sisters, Jane and Sarah, on their wedding days (in 1978 and 1980 respectively). Diana, as bridesmaid to both, had longed for the day she might wear the sparkling headpiece as a bride, and on her wedding day it served as a fitting ‘something borrowed’.
The tiara’s value is unknown, but in 2018 the Spencer family sold another headpiece, set with more than 800 diamonds, for £185,000 to a mystery bidder at auction.
The tiara is now owned by Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, and has been in the Spencer family in various guises for more than 90 years.
