Lori Loughlin & Her Husband Will Plead Guilty In The College Admissions Scandal
A little over a year after a group of parents were charged with using criminal means to get their children into college, Lori Loughlin has agreed to plead guilty in the college admissions scandal known to authorities as "Operation Varsity Blues." According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts, the Full House actor will plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, while her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, will plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud and honest services wire and mail fraud. Bustle reached out to reps for Loughlin and Giannulli for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.
The couple — who were scheduled to go on trial in October — were charged with paying $500,000 in order to get their daughters, Olivia and Isabella, admitted to the University of Southern California as recruits for the crew team, despite the fact that neither of the girls were rowers. Loughlin and Giannulli denied that they paid bribes to get their children admitted, stating that they believed their money was a legitimate gift to the university.
Under the conditions of their plea deals, Loughlin will serve "two months in prison, pay a $150,000 fine and be on supervised release for two years with 100 community service," according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Giannulli, meanwhile, will serve five months, pay a $250,000 fine and will "be on supervised release for two years with 250 hours of community service."
