Meghan Markle wore £12000 earrings for Archie christening because of ‘deeper meaning’

Meghan Markle revealed two images from her son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s christening over the weekend. One photo was an extended family picture, featuring Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland, as well as Harry’s father Prince Charles and his wife Camilla. The second showed Meghan and Harry cradling their son, who was born on May 6. In the pictures, the Duchess could be spotted wearing £12,000 Cartier earrings, a favourite brand of hers.  It’s been widely reported that the earrings Meghan chose to wear for the occasion are the same ones that the royal wore just over a year ago at her royal wedding to the Duke of Sussex.

According to US Weekly, the earrings are Galanterie de Cartier diamond and white gold studs.

They’re said to be worth $15,000, which is equivalent to £12,000.

So why did Meghan choose these particular earrings for Archie’s big day?

Jewellery designer and expert Nurce Erben told Express.co.uk that there could be a “deeper meaning” behind Meghan’s decision to wear her “wedding” earrings at Archie’s christening.

She said: “Every royal has their favourite jewellery, and Cartier is one of Meghan’s, as she wore them to some of her most important moments – her marriage and her son’s christening.

“Meghan Markle’s £12,000 Cartier earrings have a deeper meaning than just design and expensive materials. She’s always been the princess of hearts – just like Princess Diana – and her choice of jewellery emphasises that.”

Nurce – who has designed her own collection Elementa Jewellery – explained that the Duchess often wears jewellery to match her mood.

She said: “Jewellery is very important as it symbolises significant moments and defines the way people feel. Jewellery is about two things: materials or design, and energy. Meghan was wearing her favourite jewellery that made her feel positive, confident, and happy.”

This is a common theme jewellery designers hope to achieve with their pieces.

Like many designers, Nurce emphasises on the importance of feeling positive and relates this back to the jewellery people choose to wear for important occasions.

Therefore, many designers see no issues with the cost of the jewellery, with the most important thing being how it makes one feel in that moment in time, which could explain the high price tag for Meghan’s studs.

How much is Meghan’s Cartier collection worth?

This year, The Sun reported how Meghan’s entire jewellery collection amounted to £1million.

This included a pair of stunning Cartier diamond earrings, made in 18ct white gold and set with around 19 round diamonds and 10 rectangular stones, which cost £60,000.

She also wore a £241,000 Cartier bracelet for her wedding to Prince Charles’ son in 2018, with the stunning, chunky design perfectly complementing her delicate bridal dress.

The mum of one also owns a £17,700 Cartier Essential Lines bracelet, made from 18ct white gold and set with 61 diamonds.

This alone amounts to £319,000 in Cartier jewels.
