Milla Jovovich is pregnant 2 years after ’emergency abortion’
Actress and model Milla Jovovich is pregnant.
The 43-year-old “Resident Evil” star announced on Instagram that she is expecting a baby girl more than two years after she underwent an “emergency abortion.”
At this stage in her current pregnancy, she wrote, “We’re in the clear.”
“After I found out I was pregnant 13 weeks ago, I had a mixture of feelings ranging between complete joy and utter terror. Because of my age and losing the last pregnancy I didn’t want to get attached to this potential baby too quickly,” she wrote. “That was obviously not fun and the last few months have been my family and I living on pins and needles waiting for a slew of different test results to come in and spending most of our time in doctors offices.”
Jovovich and her husband, director Paul W.S. Anderson, 54, have two daughters, Ever, 11, and Dashiel, 4. In May, on the heels of several states passing laws that would restrict or ban abortion access, Jovovich took to Instagram to reveal in a since-deleted post that she’d undergone the procedure two-and-a-half years ago when she was 4 1/2 months pregnant. At the time, she’d gone into preterm labor.
“It was one of the most horrific experiences I have ever gone through,” she wrote. “I still have nightmares about it. I was alone and helpless. When I think about the fact that women might have to face abortions in even worse conditions than I did because of new laws, my stomach turns.”
“Abortion is a nightmare at its best,” the actress continued. “No woman wants to go through that. But we have to fight to make sure our rights are preserved to obtain a safe one if we need to. I never wanted to speak about this experience. But I cannot remain silent when so much is at stake.”
Preterm labor is defined as labor that occurs before 37 weeks of pregnancy, according to March of Dimes, but Dr. Jacques Moritz, an obstetrician in New York City, told “Good Morning America” that babies born before 24 weeks gestation have a low survival rate. At 18-20 weeks, which it appears Jovovich was, “there is almost no hope… for survival,” he said. If a woman’s water breaks at that time, he added, she is at a “tremendous” risk of infection.
Added Dallas-based obstetrician Jessica Shepherd, “In the subsequent pregnancies, as long as the mother is cleared and the fetus is checked for any medical issues, the pregnancy can continue as planned.”
Now pregnant again, the model has promised to keep her fans posted.
“Wish me and my baby luck!” she wrote.
