A mother has left the internet in stitches after attempting to recreate a trendy unicorn cake for her daughter’s birthday using a damaged pre-made supermarket dessert.
Mum Lauren planned to purchase the cake seen spread across Pinterest and Instagram but realised it was harder to find in stores than initially thought.
Instead she and her husband rushed to several supermarkets and found one last cake that had been damaged after a tumble.
Lauren, believed to be from the UK, admitted she was ‘naïve’ about the popularity of the unicorn dessert and bought the cake the night before the party to use as the base.
The original design featured white icing with a rainbow unicorn mane, gold horn and adorable smiling eyelashes on the front of the cake, but Lauren’s alternative looked like a unicorn-cat hybrid with goofy eyes and a huge smiley face on top.

Sharing images to a popular Facebook group, Lauren wrote: ‘This may make you laugh. It certainly made my husband’s night!
‘My daughter is adamant that she wants a unicorn cake for her birthday. Being the naive parents that we are, we assumed that they would be easy to get hold of and left it to the night before.
‘Needless to say, two supermarket visits and multiple calls around shops and we can only find one that’s had a tumble from shelf to floor.’
The Tesco ‘caticorn’ cake cost $12 AUD/ $6.50 GPD and was badly squished from being dropped.
Lauren said it took a ‘mother’s love and perseverance’ to restore the cake that vaguely resembled a unicorn.
‘She won’t be able to tell the difference, right?’ she wrote.
In a video shared online of the party, her daughter seemed pleased with the cake and said it looked like a unicorn.

‘Priceless because you tried your best. This cake is what makes you an awesome mum and will be the memory your child will never forget,’ one mum wrote.
‘I prefer yours! It’s got more character! Well done!’ another added.
A baker wrote: ‘I make cakes for a living, and can guarantee she will love this when she sees it, because it’s beautiful and made with love.’
