My aunt says I will 'CURSE' my baby with her name but I don't care
‘Please talk to a priest!’ Woman is left HORRIFIED to learn that her pregnant niece plans to call her baby girl LILITH – insisting she will ‘CURSE’ the child by naming her after a ‘demon’
- A desperate and anonymous Reddit user posted angry texts from her aunt
- The aunt begged her niece to change the planned ‘forever namesake’
- She argued that an exorcist may be needed to ‘free the child’ later on in life
A pregnant woman has revealed the fierce debate she got into with her aunt over her proposed baby name – claiming that her relative was ‘losing her mind’ over the moniker because of its demonic origins.
The unnamed mother-to-be took to Reddit’s ‘mildly infuriating’ forum to share a series of text messages sent to her by her horrified aunt after she shared her proposed baby name with her.
Posting on the forum, the woman wrote: ‘My Aunt losing her mind over the name of my soon to be born daughter Lilith.’
According to the text messages, the aunt’s outrage stems from the name’s historical significance – and its place in Jewish folklore, in which Lilith is a female demon who threatened violence against women and children, particularly during child birth.

The name that was desired by the niece was Lilith, however, according to Jewish folklore, the name Lilith is a ‘female demonic figure.’ The aunt called the name a ‘curse’
Britannica says of name’s history: ‘In rabbinic literature, Lilith is variously depicted as the mother of Adam’s demonic offspring following his separation from Eve or as his first wife.’
Clearly perturbed by the name’s less-than-savory history, the woman’s aunt begged her to reconsider, suggesting that she choose the name ‘Lily Marie’ instead.
‘Maybe just name her Lily Marie?’ the aunt wrote in the first of four text messages. ‘Please pray about that! A namesake is more powerful than most people know! She will have her namesake forever.’
She then went on to claim that she had been warned by ‘many exorcists’ about the ‘negative spiritual effects’ a name can have on a person, writing: ‘I understand that you are good people. And you don’t know the possible horrible negative spiritual effects of a name.
‘I have heard many exorcist speak about this! Please talk to a good priest.’
The aunt warned that the woman’s daughter will grow up to resent her mother and question why she was named after a demon.
‘Someday your daughter will come to you, when she is grown [and] say: “Why did you ever name me after a demon!” Even unintentionally, it can bring harm to your most beloved innocent child.
‘I beg you, please be aware.’
Reddit users flocked to the comments to share some comedic relief on the topic
She goes on to argue in her long text that parents can ‘curse their children,’ which could result in needing a exorcist to ‘free the child’ later on in life.
Reddit users humorously brought comedic relief to the serious post.
One person jokingly wrote: ‘Lucifer! Get down here, your auntie’s over for a visit.’
Another commentator added: ‘My name is Gabriel and you don’t see me claiming I’m some holy messenger because I’m named after an angel lmao.’
A third person comedically wrote: ‘If I got named Lily Marie when LILITH was on the table, I’d be furious. For the sake of your future child’s swag, go with the cool name.’
A forth added: ‘Honestly, Lily Marie is a million times worse than Lilith.’ One person replied: ‘Right??? Lilith is such a commanding and yet elegant name.’
In New Zealand, the name Lucifer is banned from use. Parents who wanted to use the name were warned by the register that their four-month-old child will ‘never get a job,’ and ‘will never succeed in life.’
The parents ended up winning the battle and finally got to name their child Lucifer.
