‘My husband locked me out of the house because I went out with a friend
Elderly couple married for 70 years get separated for Christmas
A wife is asking for advice after being locked out of her home by her husband when she went out with a friend.
The 38-year-old turned to Reddit thread ‘Am I an ***hole’ to share her story – and her frustrations – with the online community.
Wondering if she was in the wrong, the user says she had made plans with a friend but didn’t check in with her husband first – who found it “disrespectful”.
The anonymous wife, on the other hand, wanted “to get out of the house for a few hours” to clear her head.
The two went back and forth for about an hour, with the wife sticking to her plans, but when she returned to the house, she says she found both the front gate and door to the house had been locked.
She writes: “His work has him traveling constantly and so far this year I’ve only seen him once. He would be leaving again in a few days and wouldn’t be back in the country till next year.”
She continues: “I decided to follow up with my friend and arrange to get out of the house for a few hours and clear my head as I was quite frustrated with how my husband had behaved.”
The Reddit user says she left the house at 9pm and was out for three hours, but when she arrived home, the front door was locked and she couldn’t get inside.
She describes calling her husband ten times without answer. He finally called her back and let her know he’d be there in 10 minutes, but he had her waiting for an hour, she says.

“Husband and I enter the house and neither of us say a word to the other and go to bed. This morning he approaches me to basically get an apology out of me for ‘my behaviour’,” the user said.
Her husband claims she was starting little arguments as an excuse to go out, which she refutes, writing: “Mind you, my buddy and I always make a point to catch up when he’s in town (two to three times a year) and it’s not something secretive or shady that I do behind his back.”
They have been together for eight years, married for five, and have three children together, ages three, six and seven. A live-in nanny was caring for the children while she was out.
