Our house is like a bombsite unless I do all the cleaning and tidying
DEAR DEIDRE: OUR house is like a bombsite unless I do all the cleaning and tidying.
My partner lives like a student and spends all his time on social media.
We are both 30 and our sons are four and two.
They are bad enough but their dad leaves a trail of mess, from dirty kitchen worktops to out-of-date food in the fridge.
He tells me to embrace the mess but I want a clean, safe home for the children.
I am no clean-freak but this is becoming a dealbreaker.
Sometimes he says he’s disappointed in himself and I wonder if he’s depressed.
He is a good dad and a caring partner. Are my expectations too high?

DEIDRE SAYS: Your partner sounds loving but disorganised. Don’t wait for him to change.
Instead, draw up a list of everything that needs doing.
Either he pulls his weight or he must do a larger proportion of the childcare.
If indeed he is depressed, he should speak to Calm (thecalm zone.net, 0800 58 58 58).
