Pearl Jam uses augmented reality to tease ‘Superblood Wolfmoon’ song

You Vedder have a smartphone if you want to hear a preview of Pearl Jam’s new song.

Pearl Jam is allowing fans to preview its new single “Superblood Wolfmoon” off its upcoming album “Gigaton” through an augmented reality experience.

The “Jeremy” jammers partnered with a company called Powster to create the web app, which can be found on mobile phones at Moon.PearlJam.com.

Fans can then point their phone cameras at the moon “to trigger the song snippet and pre-order the song,” according to a press release.

The AR experience will be live through Feb. 19 when “Superblood Wolfmoon” will be fully available online.

The company also recently collaborated with Universal Music Group and Republic Records to create a “synchronized dual-phone” music video for Post Malone’s “Circles” on Spotify.

Even bands like Radiohead have used mobile phones as a marketing gimmick. The “Creep” crooners released a mobile game called PolyFauna in 2014 — based on their sessions from “The King of Limbs” — which allowed players to see shifting scenery and perspectives as listeners moved their phones.

(The band recently released another digital gimmick — the Radiohead Public Library — which was not as well received.)

Pearl Jam also used augmented reality to first tease “Gigaton,” which will be their 11th studio album, in the form of a scavenger hunt, Stereogum reported. Users were able to hear sound snippets and see possible album art and an animation of polar ice caps melting using a photograph from Paul Nicklen.

The grunge rockers have already released the album’s first single, “Dance of the Clairvoyants,” on all major streaming platforms.

“Gigaton,” which is set for release on March 27, will be the band’s first release since the Grammy-winning album “Lightning Bolt” in 2013.

It is currently available for pre-order on the band’s website — though the limited edition CD bundle is currently sold out.

The band’s frontman Eddie Vedder also recently made news when he went on a four-day vacation with the Chicago Cubs.
