Prince Harry Defends Meghan Markle as She Reportedly Hires PR Firm to Improve Her Image
Prince Harry is on the defense. Amid reports that Meghan Markle has hired a PR firm to repair her negative public image, the Duke of Sussex blasted British tabloids for the way they have treated his wife, revealing that Markle has been “suffering” in private for far too long. The statement comes on the heels of a major lawsuit between the couple and Associated Newspapers, which owns the Daily Mail.
Prince Harry defends Meghan Markle
This week Prince Harry issued a scathing statement about how thetabloid press has treated Markle over the past few years. The Duke of Sussexblasted the tabloids for running a “ruthless campaign” without caringabout potential consequences.
Prince Harry then explained how he and Markle always put on agood face in public, which often hides the pain they are experiencing behindclosed doors.
“[We] continued to put on a brave face – as so many of youcan relate to – I cannot begin to describe how painful it has been,”Prince Harry shared.
Markle has dealt with negative tabloid rumors ever since shestarted dating Prince Harry. Those rumors have grown more frequent followingthe birth of the couple’s first child, Archie, this past spring.
Prince Harry and Markle are currently on tour in South Africa. The couple has visited a number of different countries in the region and areexpected to be back home this week.
Although the royal family usually avoids getting mixed up in therumor mill, Prince Harry’s latest statement coincides with some legal actionagainst one of the biggest tabloids in Britain.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sue the tabloids
In light of all the negative press surrounding Markle, PrinceHarry is taking legal action against the Daily Mail and its parent company,Associated Newspapers.
According to People, the pair’s lawyer released a statement confirming that the royal family issuing Associated Newspapers for publishing a private letter that was written byMarkle.
“Given the refusal of Associated Newspapers to resolve thisissue satisfactorily, we have issued proceedings to redress this breach ofprivacy, infringement of copyright and the aforementioned media agenda,”the statement read.
Prince Harry noted that Markle has suffered in silence for thepast year and that it is time to do something about it.
He also pointed out how they have received positive coveragethroughout their tour of South Africa, which highlights the double standards bywhich many tabloids operate.
Prince Harry then criticized the papers taking shots at Marklewhen she was on maternity leave, a time when she was unable to step out inpublic to dispel some of the lies.
The royal family, of course, is used to making headlines whereverthey go. They also have a history of dealing with the tabloids and paparazzi, something Prince Harry’s late mom, Princess Diana, fought until her tragicdeath.
In fact, Prince Harry mentioned Diana in his statement, tellingfans that he does not want Markle to fall prey to the same forces in the media.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle lean on each other
This, of course, is not the only time Prince Harry has defendedMarkle in public. Back in 2016, he issued a statement blasting the media forhow they were talking about Markle.
Prince Harry criticized the press for saying sexist and racistthings about Markle, a move that only briefly quieted the tabloids.
While the couple welcomed their first child this past spring, thenegative headlines have taken a lot of joy out of their lives.
To help cope with the bad press, inside sources claim that theyboth “lean on each other” whenever they face hurdles.
It is unclear what will come of the lawsuit, but it is good tosee Prince Harry sticking up for Markle, even it is stepping outside of hiscomfort zone.
When it comes to the personal letters, the lawsuit did nothighlight any one letter in particular. This past year, the Daily Mail haspublished several letters reportedly written by Markle to her dad, ThomasMarkle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex claim that the publication edited the letters to make them appear more scandalous. Publishers for the Daily Mail, however, say that the did not tweak the letters in any way that would change their meaning.
There is no telling if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will win their lawsuit, but we can hope that it will persuade the tabloids to give them some much-needed space.
