Very few people in the world ever get to become a queen. It is an honor unlike any other, and quite arguably one of the most high-profile positions in the entire world. After all, each and every queen goes down in history and is remembered forever.

However, as we know, someone isn’t just born with that particular title. They have to be in the direct line of succession, and, as was the case with Queen Elizabeth, hold the title of “princess” first. While it might seem like a complicated situation, the truth of the matter is that being a queen isn’t easy.

There are a lot of things to do and to remember, and virtually no room for error. Even so, there are a lot of advantages, and we can’t even imagine the life of privilege that the queen has had for so many years. She gets to travel the world, and wear jewelry that the rest of us can only dream of, such as sparkling diamonds and gorgeous tiaras.

How Queen Elizabeth prepared to become queen

Her majesty was born as Princess Elizabeth on April 21, 1926, and we all know that she has had a pretty spectacular life. One of the most interesting things about the queen is that she wasn’t even in the direct line of succession, meaning that at the time of her birth, the people of England didn’t know that she would one day take the throne. So, what happened?

Well, it was actually her uncle, Edward VIII who was king before her, meaning any children that he may have had would have taken over as the ruling monarch. Not only did King Edward VIII never have children of his own, but he abdicated the throne in 1936, meaning that his brother, George VI, became king.

As a result, his daughter, then-princess Elizabeth, was given the honor of becoming queen after his death. Although she takes the role very seriously, there wasn’t much preparation beforehand.

The queen never attended a traditional school and learned the ins and outs of being the ruling monarch simply by watching her parents.

Over the years, we have seen Queen Elizabeth in some jaw-dropping pieces of jewelry, yet nothing even comes close to the Imperial State Crown. Made in 1937 for the coronation of King George VI, it is set with thousands of diamonds, eleven emeralds, 17 sapphires, and a few hundred pearls.

Just as anyone would expect from all those precious gemstones, the crown is pretty valuable, said to be worth billions of dollars. When will we see the queen wearing this impressive crown? Look for it at state openings of Parliament, and it was also the crown that the queen exchanged for St Edward’s Crown, at the end of her coronation ceremony in 1953.

The queen herself has gone so far as to say that the Imperial State Crown is so heavy that she can barely look down while wearing it. So, why did she wear it to write letters?

Well, as it turns out, it was practice for when she would have to wear it at official events. According to her majesty, if she were to look down with the heavy crown on her head, her “neck would break, it would fall off.”

A young Prince Charles would ask his mother why she was wearing the crown, and she would explain that she was preparing for when she had to wear it in the future. Genius!
